I got back to Durham on Monday night from a long and fabulous weekend in New York City with the Carolina Forest Fartlekers, my amazing running group. We ran the MORE Magazine Half Marathon in Central Park on a beautiful cool April morning. We stayed next door to Carnegie Hall, just 1 1/2 blocks from the park, so all we had to do was walk to the race start after a fantastic breakfast and coffee.
I can’t tell you how much I love New York. Some of my favorite parts were:
- FOOD, FOOD, FOOD! Jewish delis, sushi restaurant, Italian restaurant, the dumpling restaurant in Chinatown and the best street vendor hotdog in the world.
- Did I mention food? Kitty also took us to Zabar’s and Fairway grocery, which rendered me speechless.
- The Irish Hunger Memorial. It is the trippiest thing this side of the Mississippi. I think I like it so much because I can imagine – on a much smaller scale, of course – just how hungry they must have been.
- Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset.
- Crossing the finish line in Central Park.
Awesome photos coming soon!
