Litter investigator!

Did you know that Durham county has its own Litter Investigator!?! Cool!

If you live in Durham and see someone littering, jot down any pertinent information (date, time, location, name of person if possible, license plate number if applicable, description of the incident, etc.) and call the Durham Litter Investigator at (919) 560-0437.

Anyone found dumping or littering will be prosecuted by the Durham County legal system.  The purpose is to keep Durham clean and beautiful. Go Durham!

Very sad

I’m so very sad that David Foster Wallace killed himself on Friday. Infinite Jest is one of the most brilliant novels I’ve ever read. I hope Mr. Wallace is at peace now.

Boulder, Colorado!

I took this really fun little quiz called “What U.S. city is right for you?”, and I got Boulder, CO.

How about you?

See?!? I knew it, I knew it!!

I always tell people that the Durham Farmer’s Market is the best market in the world, but they don’t believe me. Well, apparently it’s officially true now because Bon Appetit magazine says so.

People used to make fun of Durham. Now the joke is on them.

Burger truck: there’s nothing left to say, really. There are actual tears of joy welling up in my eyes.

Please take action: We have 15 days left to protect women's health

Dear friends and family,

Crystal is hopping mad, because women’s health rights – as usual – are in danger.

Indeed, George W. Bush has launched a new assault on birth control and reproductive freedom.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently proposed regulations that would seriously undermine access to basic reproductive health services, including birth control and abortion. You can find out more about this proposed legislation here on the Daily Kos.

Instead of striking a careful balance between individual religious liberty and patients’ access to reproductive health care, the Bush administration has taken patients’ rights and their health care needs out of the equation.

This far-reaching proposal doesn’t need congressional approval. But, it can’t go forward without allowing for public comment. That’s where we come in.

The deadline for public comments is fast approaching — September 25 — and we have to generate intense opposition to these dangerous regulations.

I just sent HHS my comment urging them to stop efforts to block women’s access to basic reproductive health services. I urge you to do the same here: http://action.aclu.org/hhs_comment

Thank you,

Crystal

More awesome Downtown Durham developments

Durham only gets better and better all the time. Case in point: Pinhook.

According to this post on Carpe Durham, Pinhook is a bar that is coming to downtown Durham in a couple months. It’ll have a stage for bands, old-school arcade games, and all sorts of fancy beer.

I read a bit of Pinhook’s Weblog post about going to an auction in Winston Salem to buy used arcade games. It is HILARIOUS.
